This is a glorious day! Another beautiful red-orange sunrise leading to a clear sky in that particularly lovely shade of blue that only God can create. The possibilities seem endless as I gaze at this beauty through the lacy panels on my window.
The news covers blizzard conditions in the Northeast and I feel extremely grateful that God saw fit to put me in Georgia. During one of our last bad snows, the city of Atlanta was crippled and comedians joked that we close the schools at the first sign of snowflakes. It is true. We are never prepared for this sort of thing because we rarely see it. We don’t own chains for our tires. They would just lie around and rust.
Freezing temperatures bring phone calls from friends and loved ones who remind us to fill a few jugs with water and to leave the faucets dripping so that pipes don’t freeze. There is always a run on the grocery store for bread and milk. I see this is true everywhere.
Cold weather is a time to make those favorite dishes that warm our insides and make us feel full and safe. Hearty stews and casseroles seem much more appealing that a salad when you come in from working in the cold. One of my family’s favorites is Chicken and Dumplings. I make it just a little different that everyone else. Look for it on my recipe page.
I hope large towns and cities are the same as our small town in times like this. Too many people are lonely and alone. When the weather traps people inside their homes, a couple of days without food, water, and electricity could cause dangerous conditions for the weak and elderly. Please, call your neighbors and check on them.
