I was thinking earlier. We didn't have a lot of money when I was growing up. Daddy had been sick and disabled since I was 9 and when I was 13, mama hurt her back and couldn't work for a long while. I knew we struggled a little, but I didn't realize until years later how poor we really were.
I had 3 brothers and most the time we had family members living with us. We never went without. Mama and daddy gave us everything they could and we were blessed to have my G-ma Bo to get us the things my parents couldn't afford.
One thing my parents didn't have any trouble providing was love and teaching us manners, morals and about God. We were blessed to watch a husband and wife that loved each other more than life itself and that loved their kids. We got spankings and grounded. It helped teach us there were repercussions for our actions. We knew we better use sir, ma'am, please and thank you! We blessed our food before we ate it and prayed before bed.
My kids are grown now (nearly 😜) and I have worked very hard to make sure I provided for them and raise them to Godly adults. Kevin and I have sheltered them and protected them as much as we could. We haven't had to struggle financially as my parents did. It hasn't been easy we have had many struggles over years but we managed.
pray that when my kids look back they don't think wow my parents gave me everything I wanted. I hope they think my parents love me and they loved each other. I hope they remember the things we taught them that didn't cost anything. The things our parents taught us and their parents before them. Some things don't go out of style.
Please teach your kids to have manners and morals. Teach them there are repercussions for their actions. Teach them to be kind and thoughtful. Teach them the world doesn't owe them anything. If you want something you have to work for it. Teach them about God, respect and love. What you sow into your children today the world will have to deal with tomorrow.
