Nothing is more nerve racking than wanting to dress fashionable on a budget. I have wonderful news....It isn't impossible! Dressing trendy is easier today than ever before simply because there are so many different styles you can wear that are acceptable.
Long gone are the days when your shoes, purse and your lipstick had to be the same color. Or how many of you were told not to wear brown and black at the same time, don't mix metallic shades, or don't wear white after Labor Day. Oh the horror! Well I'm about to spice your life up then because I am telling you that you don't have to go by your mother's rules anymore. Well, when it comes to her fashion rules anyway.
I know all too well that a lot of what we know about fashion we learned from our mothers and then we mixed that with whatever the fashion mags were telling us when we were teenagers. I also know that changing what is ingrained in you is something you will have to work at but we don't have to do it all at once.
Learning how to buy pieces you can afford and how to mix those pieces is everything. No one said you have to buy all the pieces to an outfit at the same time. I actually acquire pieces from multiple places to ensure I get the most for my money.
Today, however, I would like to talk about accessories. Nothing can help dress up or dress down an outfit like accessories. My favorite 3 go-to items are: (drum roll please) a chunky necklace, scarves and a cardigan. Having a mix of these pieces can make you options limitless. Whether you are trying to dress up a t-shirt or make dress pants seem more relaxed these little pieces are priceless to your wardrobe.

Jeans and a t-shirt can be pretty casual but you can spice it up with any one of the three pieces or a mix of 2. Whether you choose the necklace and cardigan or skip the necklace and go for the scarf you have just given your outfit a whole new look.
A normal outfit for work, dress slacks and the nice blouse can be just ok. However, adding one of the 3 go-to accessories can liven it up.
So think about it, window shop different pieces, and start building your accessories. These pieces don't have to be expensive they are actually very affordable staples. Start small. Choose one to begin with and use it with an outfit you already have. Have fun with it. I bet in no time you will be a pro at this crazy thing we call fashion.
Tell me what your go-to items are.
