The days have flown by and October is nearly gone! So much has happened that I cannot put it all here. It has been at times frustrating, at times joyous. I continue my research to find the best quality information to change my tiny 3 acres into a working, sustainable farm.
It will not be easy. I am now physically disabled and it will be a challenge to design the farm in a manner suited to the use of someone with my limitations. I see no reason why this cannot be accomplished with proper planning.
I have been researching styles of raised beds and am amazed at the variety of ideas available. In years past we used railway ties to create our garden beds. Now, creative gardeners have made these beds into works of art, while reaping the benefits of their gardens.
Raised beds are good for so many reasons:
I am particularly interested in raised beds that are literally “raised” on legs. At table or counter height these gardens are accessible to those who, like me, find it difficult to walk and bend.
I am also intrigued by PVC pipe gardens that I have seen. One savvy gardener has created an herb garden with PVC pipe hung on the side of her barn and another put theirs on ladder-like legs.
I am interested in hearing about your raised bed gardens. Both the style of your beds and your soil mixtures. As for myself, I will continue to work on my plans and design something for my son to build. Spring will be here before you know it.

- No weeding
- Smaller gardening areas
